Meanwhile, a special festival to mark the 40th anniversary of the UN World Conference on Women is set to be held in Nairobi from next Tuesday to July 25, 2025.
According to the organizers of the event dubbed ‘Rewind, Remix, Reclaim,’ it was their intention to have the dates of the event coincide with those of the 1985 UN Conference that was also held in Nairobi. Alliance Francaise and the Goethe Institute will jointly host the festival.
Notably, the festival is an artistic exploration of the legacy of the conference through the lens of today’s feminist movements. There will also be panel discussions, film screening and workshops.
Four female artists were selected through an open call to create works that reflect on specific similar topics discussed during the conference held four decades ago. The audience will also have an opportunity to reflect on any progress that may have been made on some of the topics.
The programme will also seek to explore gender-based violence and engage with the public in open forums.
The ‘Rewind, Remix, Reclaim’ event is supported by the French-German Cultural Cooperation Fund in partnership with UN Women East and Southern Africa.
