Nigerian security forces rescue 30 persons kidnapped by gunmen
Abuja,
Nigerian security forces on Monday rescued 30 persons who were kidnapped while praying inside a mosque in the country's northwestern state of Zamfara, the police said.
A joint security operation comprising the army, police, and other allied security agencies led to the rescue of the victims of the kidnap, said Gambo Isa, a spokesman for the police in Zamfara.
Isa told Xinhua a total of 40 worshippers were kidnapped during a prayer vigil on early Monday, as the bandits in their numbers came from Zurumi, a border town in Zamfara, surrounded the worshippers at a newly constructed mosque.
"When we conducted a headcount, about 10 are still missing, but we are not sure if they are actually with the bandits or they ran to other places for their safety," the police spokesman said.
He added that investigation into the kidnap was still ongoing
