What you need to know:

  • The deceased had travelled to Kenya on February 15, 2025 for a product launch by FICO and was booked at JW Marriott Hotel in Westlands.
  • Scott’s partly decomposed remains were found at a forest in Mukuyuni, along the Wote-Machakos highway, by a herdsman on February 24.

Two Kenyan men have been arraigned following the mysterious death of Briton Campbell Scott.

Alex Kithuka and Albanus Nzioki, suspects in the murder of the British national, have been locked up for 21 days as detectives probe the matter. Mention for the case is set for March 24, 2025.

The two were arraigned in Milimani on Monday where police requested for the additional days to seal any loopholes in the case that has caught the world’s attention.

According to detectives, the third and main suspect in the investigation into the death, could be hiding in Voi.

Police told the court that they believe that the deceased, a senior director at Fico- a data analytics company based in the US, was murdered in Pipeline estate in Nairobi before his body was transported and dumped at Makongo Forest along the Machakos-Wote road.

The decomposing body was discovered by a herder who was grazing his goats and reported the matter to the area chief who also informed the police at Mukuyuni Police Station.

It is this discovery, and later identification of the body as that of Mr Scott by one David Hornus, a crisis consultant at FICO, who came to Kenya on behalf of the deceased’s family that sparked a spirited probe by detectives to unravel circumstances leading to his death.

Police sources told the Nation on Friday that the person of interest, seen in CCTV footage outside a Westlands club, may hold some answers on the mystery death and the Briton’s final hours.

Investigations indicate that the Briton was picked up by an Uber driver who took him to Mr Mutinda’s house in Pipeline where it is believed that he was murdered before his body being disposed of in Makongo Forest.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that after Mr Scott’s body was dumped, there were several successful and attempts of withdrawal of money from the deceased person's account within Nairobi, Voi and Mombasa,” files submitted by the police in court read in part.

Police believe that the two suspects were involved in the Briton’s murder thus justifying their arrest last Saturday along Nairobi-Machakos road.

Investigators requested the court to allow them hold the suspects for 21 days, arguing that owing to the seriousness of the case, their release would jeopardise the investigations- a request that was granted by Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina.

The detectives are now hot in pursuit of a handset and a sim card which they believe will assist them arrest other suspects connected in the murder of Scott.

Last week, an autopsy conducted by Richard Njoroge and Samuel Omuok from the government’s chemist turned inconclusive, with the duo saying the exact cause of the Briton’s death will be determined after toxicology and histology analysis.

Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor explained that the head injuries and other minor injuries noted on Scott’s body were too minimal to have caused his death.

The deceased had travelled to Kenya on February 15, 2025 for a product launch by FICO and was booked at JW Marriott Hotel in Westlands.

A day later, at about 11:15 am, Scott was last seen leaving the hotel. He had visited Havana Bar & Restaurant on the last two days he was seen alive and was in the company of an unidentified man.

Voi is more than 330 kilometres from Pipeline estate in Nairobi, where Scott and the mystery man were last seen.

The burly Scotsman was on a business trip to Kenya before he went missing.

He was last seen at Havana Bar & Restaurant along Woodvale Grove in Westlands, about one kilometre from where stayed at the JW Marriott hotel.

At Havana, Scott was in the company of the unidentified man who has been in the wind since February 16.

Scott’s partly decomposed remains were found at a forest in Mukuyuni, along the Wote-Machakos highway, by a herdsman on February 24.
