Police on Tuesday arrested car dealer Joseph Kairo Wambui, alias Khalif Kairo, on suspicion of obtaining money by false pretence that he would deliver high end cars to a client, only for him to allegedly disappear with their cash.

This was confirmed by Kasarani Sub-County criminal investigations officer Justus Ombati, who said Kairo is detained at Kasarani Police Station.

He told Nation.Africa that the dealer was arrested at one of his car yards in the city.

"Yes he is here. We arrested him today after he pocketed millions from a buyer and has been elusive to either refund the money or deliver the cars. There are more complainants who have turned up and we have opened a file on him," Ombati said.

Kairo, who is also a social media personality, is accused of allegedly defrauding a complainant of Sh26 million.

He was in custody with three other employees, police said.

Nairobi regional criminal investigations officer Benson Kasyoki also confirmed the arrest to Nation.Africa. He said he has dispatched officers to interrogate the car dealer over similar incidents that have been brought to his attention.

Earlier, he seemingly alluded to the issue by saying entrepreneurs at one point face litigation or money problems.
