Covid: 64 new infections in Kenya, four patients succumb

The number of confirmed Covid-19 infections in Kenya has risen to 96,678 following 64 new positive tests from 1,852 samples, the Ministry of Health reported on Saturday.

The new cases comprise 59 Kenyans and five foreigners, of whom 35 are male and 29 females. The youngest is a six-year-old baby while the oldest is 84.

The death toll in the country from the pandemic now stands at 1,685 after four fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe in a statement to media houses.

The Ministry, on the other hand, reported 55 new recoveries, bringing the tally for national recoveries to 79,012.

Latest recoveries

From the latest recoveries, 41 are from home-based care programmes while 14 have been discharged from various hospitals across the country.

Currently, there are 657 patients admitted in various health facilities countywide while 2,989 are in home-based care.

At the same time, 29 more patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 14 of whom are on ventilatory support while 12 on supplemental oxygen. Three patients are under observation.

Meanwhile, Nairobi, with 34 cases, reported the highest numbers of new infections followed by Kisii 5, Laikipia 5, Meru 3, Machakos 3, Mombasa 2, Busia 2, Taita Taveta 2, Kiambu 1, Embu 1, Kajiado 1, Kilifi 1, Nakuru 1, Nyandarua 1, Siaya 1 and Uasin Gichu 1.
