There's a lot to be said about the relationship between Repentance and Holiness Ministry founder, Prophet David Owuor, and the deposed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, now in custody in the US.

It stems from the fact that President Maduro personally received Prophet Owuor when the preacher visited the South American country in November last year.

This wasn’t Prophet Owuor’s first visit to Venezuela, a Spanish-speaking country that has a branch of Prophet Owuor’s ministry — called Repentance and Holiness Ministry Venezuela. During that visit, Prophet Owuor went to the country’s Miraflores Palace— the equivalent of State House Nairobi— where he prayed for Mr Maduro, who at that time was troubled by the impending US invasion and capture.

The November 15, 2025 prayer, which was filmed and later posted on online outlets under the Repentance and Holiness Ministry, was telling. Prophet Owuor, pushing his left palm firmly onto Mr Maduro’s greying head as his right hand held a microphone, prayed fervently.

“I want to pray for the president of this country, in the powerful name of Jesus. And I am saying this very aware that this is a special nation, and that the Lord is with this country. And let me lay my hand upon you and make a decree, Father, in the powerful name of Jesus.

“Lord, I decree with my prophetic tongue today, that you protect the president of this nation, and protect the entire land of Venezuela, even as you have shown me in a dream, you will cast out the enemy. The enemy will not come near, and this nation will rise. I decree health and strength upon the president of this land, Nicolas Maduro, so that in this land, Lord, you will always be glorified.”

He continued: “Lord, I decree today that as this nation rises, the name of Jesus will be exalted in this land. I have decreed today victory, victory, victory — victory three times in the mighty name of Jesus,” said Prophet Owuor as an interpreter converted his English to Spanish.

'Prophecy' of nuclear submarines

On October 24, 2025, in a prophecy aired on Jesus is Lord Radio, a Nakuru-based outlet of the ministry, Prophet Owuor spoke of a “dream” he had had about Venezuela being attacked.

“For the past few days, probably the past one week running, on a daily basis, the Lord has been taking me to Venezuela and showing me the war that is about to break out in Venezuela. The Lord has shown me the US submarines. They are nuclear submarines that run deep in the oceans, a few kilometres down there and that supervise the world, go all over the world. I saw one of the submarines come very close, something to do with about 500 metres from the shores of Venezuela, very close, and all the Venezuelan boats were running,” he said.

By the time Prophet Owuor was uttering these words, the US had attacked various Venezuelan vessels in the Caribbean for allegedly transporting narcotics, and there was chatter among representatives as to whether President Donald Trump’s administration needed congressional approval before the attacks.

On October 15, 2025, Trump confirmed he had authorised America’s Central Investigative Agency to conduct covert operations inside Venezuela and that he was weighing carrying out land operations in Caracas and other parts of the oil-rich country.

Earlier, on October 8, Senate Republicans had voted down legislation that would have required Mr Trump to seek authorisation from Congress before further military strikes.

Prophet Owuor further said in his October 24 utterance: “The Lord showed me a lot of roadblocks in Venezuela, roadblocks, by the military. They’re stopping people, we were going, then we’re asking, ‘Are we going to pass kweli (rally)? Are we really going to manage to pass?’ Because they were searching each car, each person.”

Praised for 'foreseeing US attack'

After Saturday’s US offensive, comments under a video of the prophecy, posted on YouTube via the “Repent and Prepare the Way” channel, appeared to praise Prophet Owuor for foreseeing the attack.

“The Lord had already warned before,” posted Peter Ngugi.

“It has already [been] fulfilled on January 3, 2026.”

Eugene Odhiambo wrote: “And today it has been fulfilled.”

However, some of Prophet Owuor’s past predictions have stirred controversy. Late last year, there was widespread speculation on social media about an alleged prediction by the preacher that Doomsday would come on August 2, 2025. However, the ministry came out to say the preacher had never mentioned a specific date.

“Prophet Dr Owuor has always been very categorical on the fact that nobody knows the day or the hour when the Messiah will return, as the Bible clearly states,” said a statement from the leadership of the church.

Locust invasion

In 2019, Prophet Owuor claimed to have predicted Kenya’s locust invasion, terming it a consequence of Kenyans disobeying the repentance message. However, some experts said the invasion was part of a cyclical pattern. He has also claimed to have foreseen calamities like tsunamis and hurricanes, though there has never been a direct link between what he prophesied and what happened.

His recent claims of divine healing for serious medical conditions such as HIV and Aids, cancer and physical disabilities have prompted investigations by the Health Ministry and other regulatory bodies, including the Kenyan Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).

On New Year’s Eve, Prophet Owour, flanked by certified medical doctors, claimed patients were being cured of various diseases through his prayers at cross-over crusade in Nakuru City.

In a crusade in Venezuela in November, dubbed “Tremendous Healing Service” and held in the capital Caracas, Prophet Owuor also peppered his message with his usual healing proclamations.

“I declare the mighty name of Jesus that everybody here now: every condition under the sun, receive your healing now,” he said.

KMPDC, which licenses doctors, has poked holes in his declarations and condemned doctors who appeared at the Nakuru prayer function to confirm cure of various persons through divine intervention.

“All medical treatments and interventions must be grounded in scientific evidence, rigorous testing, and regulatory approval. Claims of healing for chronic or life-threatening conditions, such as HIV/Aids or cancer, require verifiable medical documentation and cannot be accepted without independent verification by qualified healthcare professionals,” the council said in a statement.

“KMPDC strongly advises the public against abandoning prescribed medical treatments… in favour of unproven alternatives as such actions contradict established public health guidelines,” the statement said.
