The hospital management said it is cooperating with the regulator and has begun providing relevant information to aid the probe.
MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr Philip Kirwa said the hospital is working closely with KMPDC following public testimonies by some doctors from the facility who endorsed the alleged miracle cures during a crusade led by self-styled prophet David Owuor of the Repentance and Holiness Ministry.
“We have been in contact with the medics involved, and KMPDC will take the necessary action against those found to have contravened the medical code of conduct,” said Dr Kirwa.
On Saturday, Health Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale ordered investigations into two MTRH doctors who claimed that miracle cures had healed diseases, including cancer, HIV/AIDS and physical disabilities during the Nakuru crusade.
“As much as the Ministry of Health respects freedom of worship, matters of health and life must be firmly grounded in science, ethics and evidence-based medicine,” said Mr Duale.
“Such unverified assertions of ‘miracle healing’ pose a serious threat to public health and safety,” he added.
Dr Kirwa on Sunday confirmed that several medical practitioners from the hospital were under investigation and reiterated the institution’s commitment to cooperate fully with the regulator.
“It is the KMPDC that will conduct the investigations, and we are ready to provide all necessary information regarding practitioners from our facility who attested to faith-based healing during the crusade,” he said.
KMPDC Chief Executive Officer David Kariuki said the lack of scientific evidence supporting the alleged miracle cures raises serious safety concerns.
“Evidence-based medicine is non-negotiable. All medical treatment must be grounded in scientific evidence, rigorous testing and regulatory approval,” said Mr Kariuki.
The claims have sparked public concern, with some leaders calling on the government to scrutinise religious organisations that display cult-like characteristics.
President William Ruto’s personal aide, Mr Farouk Kibet, urged believers to distinguish between worship and reverence.
“As Christians, we should differentiate between worship and respect. We are supposed to worship God and respect the servants of God. It should not reach a point where people are forced to worship fellow human beings, regardless of the positions they hold in churches or the powers they claim to possess,” said Mr Kibet.
He expressed concern over reports of church members being compelled to engage in acts such as washing tarmac roads for religious leaders.
“Such claims of miracle cures risk people abandoning medication, spreading false hope and endangering lives. This is no longer just a religious matter; it is a public health issue, and faith must never be used to mislead,” he said.
