Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has made a passionate pledge to President William Ruto that he will remain true to his oath of office and serve the country without any fear or favour.
In his acceptance speech after his swearing in ceremony witnessed by President William Ruto, Prof Kindiki said he will remain loyal and serve faithfully as the country's second in command.
"With the oath of allegiance and due execution of functions of Deputy President, I want to commit to you before this congregation and Almighty God, that I will serve under you and provide you with assistance and support you require to take this country to next level. I will be loyal and faithful," Prof Kindiki said.
The Deputy President also said he will work hard to lighten the burden carried by President Ruto on his shoulders as he strives to serve Kenyans.
"Today, this is the highest honour in my life and I don't take it for granted," the DP said.
He went on: "Words fail me to explain how grateful I am today. I'm grateful to God, to you sir (Ruto) for the honour you've given me to serve under you.
"I've been your political student for nearly 20 years now. I promise before this congregation and God that I will not let you down for the privilege you've granted me."
Prof Kindiki said he was grateful to all the institutions that facilitated the whole process including Friday's ceremony.
"This is a testament of the maturity of our democracy and proves that our institutions work. As I discharge the burden on my shoulders, I'm grateful that I will serve diligently."
The DP lauded his family and wife for providing the foundation for his success.
"I'm grateful to all including my family, my wife Dr Joyce Kithure and my three children for being the foundation and providing support I have always required to navigate this field."
He went on: "I affirm throughout my journey culminating with this moment, I have come to believe that Kenya is the country of possibility.
"For a person such as myself to take over the office of the Deputy President, it can only happen in Kenya."
President Ruto described Prof Kindiki as an effective champion of peace and stability.
"He is a loyal steward of the bottoms up economic agenda, and I know he will serve the country well without discrimination," said Dr Ruto.
Prof Kindiki said Kenya is the homeland of possibilities "so today perhaps the most unlikely person is standing here for Kenya has made it possible for anybody to become anything."
"I want to commit to support you to realize a Kenya that has greater opportunities, more inclusive, democratic and prosperous.
"There's no reason any Kenyan should not aspire to become anything."
