We need 26 million masks for learners, Magoha says

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Wednesday said the government would make 26 million face masks for learners ahead of the reopening of schools.

As the country gains ground in the Covid-19 pandemic fight, the ministry is putting in place measures to ensure the safety of the school community when learning resumes, he said. 

The masks, to be made by Rivatex East Africa, would be sold at Sh35 apiece. However, children from vulnerable backgrounds will get them for free.

Vulnerable children

“We will prioritise the most vulnerable children. The ministry will ensure every school has running water and hand sanitiser,” Prof Magoha said at when he presided over the ground-breaking ceremony of Eliud Kipchoge library at Kapsisiywa Secondary School, Nandi county. 

Prof Magoha on Monday allowed universities and colleges to recall students for on-campus lessons.
