Police have arrested ten boys suspected of setting fire to a mattress store at Alliance High School, an incident that led to the institution's temporary closure Thursday.

According to Board of Management chairperson Sam Ncheeri, the boys are with the police writing their statements. Their parents, he added, will be informed about the incident.

Alliance School fire: The store that was set ablaze by students

Earlier, the Principal issued a letter to parents and guardians confirming that a mattress store was torched Thursday morning. All students were safe, the school said.

All parents have been asked to pick their children.

The school also scheduled a meeting with parents Thursday at 10am.

By press time, the school's administration was still holding the meeting with parents.

"Following the meeting, parents are kindly requested to leave with their sons and spend the weekend with them at home. This measure is intended solely to provide an opportunity for students to be with their families as the school undertakes further internal reviews and preparations to ensure continued normalcy and a conducive learning environment," the Principal said.

"We wish to reassure all parents that there is no cause for alarm. The students remain calm, safe, and under the care and supervision of the school. This decision has been taken out of an abundance of caution and in the spirit of maintaining the confidence, well-being, and peace of mind of our entire school community."
