Embattled Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) Director-General Pavel Oimeke has been interdicted.
The Epra board has appointed Daniel Kiptoo as the director-general in acting capacity.
EPRA board announced the interdiction of Mr Oimeke in a statement released Monday saying the decision was prompted by his involvement in a bribery case that is currently under investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
"The EPRA board, upon taking into account the official communication from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, as well as the pertinent facts, has today taken the decision, firstly, to interdict Mr Oimeke as Director-General and, on the recommendation of the Cabinet Secretary for Energy Mr Charles Keter, to appoint an acting Director General Mr Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria whose appointment takes effect immediately," the statement signed by the board chairman Prof Jackton Ojwang stated.
Mr Oimeke was arrested by EACC detectives on Thursday last week on allegations of collecting a Sh200,000 bribe from an employee of a fuel station in Oyugis in order to facilitate it's re-opening.
He was released on police bond as investigations into the allegations continue.
Prior to his promotion, Mr Kiptoo was the Ministry of Energy's legal advisor.
