What you need to know:

  • The Cessna Citation XLS aircraft crashed at Mwihoko in Kiambu County on August 8, 2025 leading to the death of crew members.
  • Apart from the crew, two more people died when the aircraft landed on their home before bursting into flames.

Jane Omusula, the 41-year-old nurse who died two week ago in a plane crash, along with three other crew members of Amref Flying Doctors, has been eulogised as a woman who lived her life by taking care of her siblings.

During the requiem service on Thursday at Citam Valley Road in Nairobi, family, relatives, and friends paid glowing tribute to Jane, whom they remembered for her prioritising the needs of her siblings as well as her nursing career.

In her tribute, Esther Omusula, her sister, said that it was through the late Jane that she had an opportunity to dine in five-star restaurants.

“Jane was my only true sister and the best of the best. I will always remember her calm spirit, her deep love for God, and her passion for reading. Jane supported me in every way, never holding back, always giving her all to make sure I was comfortable and uplifted,” Esther said.

According to Esther, Jane was not only her sibling but also a loving person who went out of her way to ensure that the living standards of her siblings were improved.

“She made me go to hotels I didn’t know, classic hotels. She made me enter these big malls. She wanted me to have the best in life. Beautiful baskets, she used to buy for me. Everything good, Jane wanted for me. She gave me an unforgettable experience of flight. After my wedding, she booked me to Diani Beach… losing her feels like losing part of myself.”

Daniel Omusula, Jane’s brother, said in his tribute that they lost a true angel who was everything to them.

“She was our family’s rock, always there with a smile, a plan, or a helping hand. When I was sick, she didn’t just comfort me but guided me to the right doctor, making sure that I was okay. She poured her heart into us, paying hospital bills, lifting us up when we were down. I’m in awe of how she lived her life,” Mr Omusula said.

The family also described her as a golfer and a traveller who seized every opportunity to squeeze every drop out of life every day.

“She knew time was precious.”

“The pain of losing her is heavy, but I carry her vibrant spirit with me, and I’m so grateful for the love she gave us every single day.”

For James Omusula, the last-born in the family, the death of his sister brought darkness that he is yet to come to terms with.

Charles Etemesi, Jane’s younger brother, said that his late sister was a simple lady who used every opportunity to transform the lives of her family.

During the service, a tribute was read describing the late Jane as a God-loving lady who grew up in the village and dared to dream.

“Her love for the Bible and determination to help others laid the foundation for her life, dedicated to service and compassion.”

Jane's remains will be interred on Saturday at her family's home in Kakamega County.
