IEBC boss Marjan Hussein leaves office after 'mutual agreement'
IEBC chief executive Marjan Hussein Marjan after taking the oath of office on March 16, 2022.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission CEO Marjan Hussein left the position on Tuesday.
The electoral agency Chairman Erastus Ethekon announced that they had reached an agreement to terminate Marjan's service by mutual consent.
“.. the changes are meant to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, transparency and accountability of the secretariat in service delivery to the people of Kenya,” Mr Ethekon said in a statement to public on Tuesday.
In a statement from the CEO's office, Mr Marjan stated that he agreed to leave on mutual consent.
"Since joining the Commission in April 2015, first as Deputy Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer and later as Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, it has been an honour to work with a professional, dedicated, and resilient team committed to the constitutional mandate of the IEBC. Together, we have navigated complex operational demands, institutional transitions, and defining moments in our democratic journey," he said.
Having been appointed to the role on March 9, 2022, Mr Marjan had until March 9, 2027, to finish his five-year term.
This means that the CEO exited his posh office at Anniversary Towers with 399 days to go in his contract. That’s one year, one month and six days.
“As I move on, I do so wiser, enriched and deeply grateful for the over decade of invaluable experience in elections management. The lessons, relationships and shared purpose will remain with me always,” added Mr Marjan.
Mr Ethekon said they will announce an interim replacement in due course as it assured that the changes would not affect the commission's service delivery.
The CEO of IEBC is the accounting officer and head of secretariat, reporting to the Commission headed by the chairperson.
