Kenya reports nearly 169,000 Covid cases, death toll of 3,087

Kenya on Tuesday recorded 382 more Covid-19 infections from a sample of 3,719 tested in the last 24 hours.
This placed the positivity rate at 10.3 per cent, the number of confirmed cases since the first one last March at 168,925 and the tally of tests carried out since then at 1,787,093.
In a statement to the press, the Health ministry said the youngest of the new patients was four months old and the oldest 98 years. Kenyans numbered 366 and foreigners 16 whereas 226 were male and 156 female.
In terms of case distribution by county, Kisumu led with 110 and was followed by Kericho with 37, Siaya 33, Nairobi 31, Busia 28, Mombasa 20, Kitui and Nakuru 19 each, Uasin Gishu and Homa Bay 14 each, and Nyamira and Garissa 10 each.
Makueni County recorded seven new infections, Vihiga five, Bomet, Machakos and Kakamega three each, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyandarua and Meru two each, and Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Kajiado, Kilifi, Laikipia, Migori, Nandi and Turkana one each.
Health minister Mutahi Kagwe further announced 14 more deaths, all of them late reports confirmed after the audit of facility in the last one month, pushing the toll to 3,087.
Mr Kagwe also reported that 1,134 more patients had recovered from the disease, 875 of them under home-based care and 259 in hospital, raising the total to 115,813.
By Tuesday, a total of 1,079 patients had been admitted to health facilities countrywide while 4,756 were under the home-based isolation and care.
Of those in hospital, 113 were under intensive care, 24 of them on ventilator support, 65 on supplemental oxygen and 24 under observation.
Another 98 patients were separately on supplemental oxygen, 91 of them in general wards and seven in high dependency units.
