All MPs are expected to dress in black on Thursday as Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, announced that the House will mourn the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga until midnight.

Just like the morning session, the Wednesday afternoon session was adjourned as MPs geared up to mourn Mr Odinga in a special session on Thursday from 10am to midnight.

“It is my humble advice, from yours truly, that we come in a sombre state and in sombre attire tomorrow. Let us dress in black and for those without, kindly find one this afternoon. I also request our good ladies to provide black ribbons for everyone. In doing so, we will together demonstrate our deep respect and appreciation for our fallen heroic leader. I shall make a formal statement at the opening of tomorrow’s sitting as we begin to eulogise our departed Prime Minister,” Mr Wetang’ula said.

“From 10am until late into the night, Members will rise, one by one, to honour the man who walked with Kenya through her most defining moments.”

In keeping with the House tradition, the lawmakers observed a minute of silence on Wednesday, bowed their heads and clasped hands across the floor.

“Baba may be gone, but his dream for a just and united Kenya remains alive in all of us,” Mr Wetang’ula said.
