Mutiso murder: Mulwa's daughter under probe for alleged theft of Sh1.5bn land title

The lawyer daughter of a presidential hopeful arrested over the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso five days ago was being investigated for alleged theft of title documents of a Sh1.5 billion 20 acre-parcel of land in Mlolongo, Athi River.
On Monday, police told a court in Mavoko that Angella Mulwa, the second born daughter of suspect Rose Mbithe Mulwa, is suspected to be culpable in the shooting case and sought to have her detained alongside alleged gunman Nelson Masiga Makaralu.
The court will decide her fate on Tuesday August 4, 2026.
The arraignment of Angella and Makaralu brings to four those arrested over the murder of Dr Mutiso.
Angella was arraigned at the the Milimani Law Courts on the same day her mother and brother Chris Mulwa were detained for 21 days to assist police in unearthing the circumstances surrounding the mysterious murder.
Detectives from Athi River DCI office are investigating her over alleged land fraud.
Police also told the court that the high end vehicles that were recovered from an upmarket Nairobi suburb are linked to her.
The duo, the court heard, are being investigated for the theft of four vehicles: a Range Rover, a Toyota Prado, a pick-up and a Toyota Corolla.
Police said two of the stolen vehicles were owned by the late Dr Mutiso while the others were taken from her husband, Prof David Ndetei.

Besides the fuel guzzlers, the court heard the two suspects are also being probed for illegal invasion of Dr Mutiso's private property while she was still alive.
The court further heard that the disputed property had a long-running case at the High Court, where Mulwa (the ex-wife of Prof David Ndetei) had sued Dr Mutiso.
“The families of the complainants have suffered irreparable loss involving unlawful eviction, demolition of their matrimonial properties, all valued at over Sh1.5 billion,” Sergent Gilbert Okello told the court on Monday.
Sgt Okello linked the land case to Dr Mutiso's murder, saying police are forensically studying CCTV videos recovered from the scene of the shooting in Upper Hill to establish the occupants of a Prado that ambushed her in traffic.
“They are likely to be culpable for other offences related to the property in contention and the murder charge,” the prosecuting counsel submitted.
However, defence lawyer Cliff Ombeta urged the court to free the suspects on bond, saying they are not flight risk.
“Angella is an advocate of this court with 26 years standing and knows very well the requirements of bond terms. She has promised to cooperate with investigators,” Ombeta told the court.
Pending determination of the 21-day detention plea, the two will remain custody until August 4, 2026 when further directions will be given.
