New Covid-19 cases as 17 patients succumb

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Kenya has risen to 83,618 following 302 new positive tests from 3,038 samples, the Ministry of Health has reported.

At the same time, the death toll in the country from the pandemic now stands at 1,469 after 17 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said on Monday.

Kagwe, on the other hand, reported 369 new recoveries, bringing the tally for national recoveries to 55,344.

From the latest recoveries, 287 are from home-based care while 82 have been discharged from various hospitals across the country.

The new cases comprise 286 Kenyans and 16 foreigners, of whom 191 are male and 111 female.

The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 83.

Nairobi, with 134 cases, reported the highest numbers of new infections followed by Kajiado 26, Kisumu 17, Kitui 16, Marsabit 16, Nyeri 16, Mombasa 13, Meru 13 and Machakos 13.

Nakuru and Kiambu had 9 new cases each, Uasin Gishu 8 while Embu and Busia reported two new cases each.

Kilifi, Laikipia, Murang'a, Kakamega, Makueni, Samburu, Tana River and Kericho each reported one new case.
