Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has officially taken over as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Deputy Party leader.
Professor Kindiki takes over the position from Rigathi Gachagua, following his successful impeachment as the deputy president.
In a ceremony on Monday at the UDA Hustler centre, Prof Kindiki assured the party members of total service to ensure the party remains popular among Kenyans.
He also lauded the party officials for ensuring that the party remained intact in the past weeks when the country was undergoing changes that saw him being picked for the DP position.
"The constitutional process of transition in the office of the deputy president to ensure that there is seamless service delivery to the people of Kenya and the members of this party," Prof Kindiki said.
In his speech, the DP said that he would remain loyal to the ruling party.
"I have been part of the journey this party has travelled since it was founded. My first responsibility is to be a loyal party member of UDA."
Also, the DP stated that the party on its own is bigger when it comes to democracy since it is the one that forms the government.
"The party is bigger than the government. The head of state and government is the party leader first before being the president because he is a product. He owes that office by virtue of being a party member."
Additionally, the DP promised UDA members total support to the party leader in strengthening the party.
Unlike his predecessor, who was accused of pushing the interests of one region, the DP has promised to lead the party in achieving its dream of unity in the country.
He was welcomed to the party by the party chairperson Cecily Mbarire and secretary general Hassan Omar.
Prof Kindiki is among the founding members of UDA who were led by President William Ruto in 2020 to form a vehicle that would accommodate them ahead of the 2022 elections.
The move also came following wrangles that rocked the ruling party by then, Jubilee Party, which saw some members allied to Mr Ruto being targeted.
