Impeachment: Cross examination of Mutai witnesses ends with more questions than answers

MCA Hillary Kibet: My name was falsely linked to the impeachment vote of Governor Mutai

The cross examination of 18 MCAs who are witnesses for Kericho Governor Eric Mutai has ended with questions on the credibility of the electronic system used during the impeachment vote on August 15.

Several MCAs told senators that their pleas to use the roll call voting system were ignored by the Speaker of the Kericho County Assembly despite Standing Orders providing for its use if at least five MCAs raise objection.

The system, according to the MCAs who testified, was installed at night — just a day before the debate of the impeachment Motion.

Before taking the vote that will decide the fate of Governor Mutai, the Senate will later today expect an audit report of the Kericho Assembly's e-voting system as ordered by Speaker Amason Kingi yesterday.
