MP Koimburi: Here is my truth on the abduction saga
Juja MP George Koimburi has spoken out for the first time since his alleged abduction two weeks ago, recounting a dramatic ordeal that police authorities have already dismissed as a fabrication.
Mr Koimburi, who is currently admitted to Karen Hospital, in a self-recorded video, thanked those who have supported him during what he described as the most harrowing period of his life.
Juja MP George Koimburi speaks in a self-recorded video from Karen Hospital on June 7, 2025.
“I am here at Karen Hospital and I am grateful for all those who have visited me during the two weeks which have been the most difficult in my life, and that I will not forget,” he said.
He was dressed in hospital robes and holding white flowers in the two-minute video.
The Juja MP has maintained that he was abducted on May 25, 2025, shortly after attending a service at the Full Gospel Church of Kenya.
“I came across goons when coming from the church, they covered my face and put some chemical on my face, and the next day I found myself in a forest,” Mr Koimburi recounted.
“I came across a boda boda rider who notified my family, and today I found myself in this hospital.”
He has also condemned the abduction, calling upon the government to investigate the rising cases of abduction in the country.
“Let us pray for the government, and we request that the government look into this issue. People are getting abducted in this country. We pray that we have peace in our country.”
Authorities have refuted Mr Koimburi's version of events, insisting that preliminary investigations suggest that the MP staged his disappearance.
Police last week arrested and arraigned Kanyenyaini MCA Grace Nduta and four other suspects - Juja National Government Constituency Development Fund Chairman Peter Kiratu Mbaru, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Kieru Muhia - over their alleged involvement in the abduction.
Mr Koimburi has been sought by police to record a statement with hospital authorities but the hospital said that the MP is not in a condition to speak, citing patient privacy in refusing to divulge further medical details.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the MP was to be arrested in connection with a land fraud case involving a parcel of land in Ruiru.
The Director of Public Prosecution had recommended his prosecution on several charges, including obtaining registration of title by false pretences (Section 320), conspiracy to defraud (Section 317), forgery (Section 347 read with Section 349 and uttering false documents (Section 353).
The DCI says that due to the high-profile nature of the case and its implications for national security, a multi-agency team was formed to investigate the matter.
