A fierce political battle looms between Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Deputy President William Ruto’s sponsored candidate in the Msambweni parliamentary by-election in Kwale.

Mr Omar Boga was on Thursday declared the ODM party candidate after he garnered 6,183 votes to beat Mr Nicholas Zani who got 530 votes in the Orange party primaries.

The former Gombato/Bongwe ward representative will face Mr Feisal Bader who is being supported by DP Ruto.

Results from Shirazi polling station were declared null and void by ODM Returning Officer Mcoremo Odoyo.

Speaking to journalists earlier in the day at Jogoo Grounds, Mr Boga said his competitors should brace for a tough battle come December 15.

“We will win this seat even if the Tangatanga team camps here,”said Mr Boga.

In an interview with the Nation, Mr Bader who ditched ODM to vie for the Msambweni parliamentary seat as an independent candidate refuted claims of being Dr Ruto's project.

“Running for the seat as an independent candidate should not be seen that I'm Ruto's project. I read malice in the ODM party and opted out, I urge my competitors to conduct peaceful campaigns, I am confident that I will carry the day,” he said.

Mr Bader received Dr Ruto’s support a day after the ruling Jubilee Party opted not to field a candidate in the mini poll.

Other candidates are Wiper's Shee Abdulrahman and United Green Movement Party's Liganje Mwakaonje.
