ODM: Let Linda Mwananchi hold rally in Nairobi, we'll not interfere

The ODM party says it will not interfere with a planned Linda Mwananchi rally in Nairobi on Sunday, but has demanded that the rival outfit and its supporters extend the same restraint to the party's own activities in the city.
In a statement issued on Friday, ODM Nairobi Chairman and Makadara legislator George Aladwa said Linda Mwananchi is free to hold its rally and conduct political activities in Nairobi, describing the right to assemble and mobilise supporters as a constitutional guarantee available to every political organisation.
"As ODM Nairobi, we have no business interfering with their rally, and we will not interfere with their activities. They have a right to speak to Nairobi residents, just as ODM has the right to engage the people and advance our political agenda," Mr Aladwa said.
He added: "Let them hold their rally. Let them tell Nairobi residents what they stand for and what they intend to offer Kenyans. The people are intelligent enough to listen to different political messages and make their own decisions."
The MP then congratulated Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja for committing to provide security during the rally.
He said that at the same, ODM's focus would be on activities to commemorate the anniversary of the late Raila Odinga.
"We are not going to be distracted by the activities of other political formations. We have our own political programme and responsibilities to our members and supporters," Mr Aladwa said.
