  • Linda Mwananchi Movement is seeking to recruit members and establish structures across the 47 counties.
  • Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi said the movement was prioritising nationwide membership registration.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Movement has identified constitutionalism, government accountability and grassroots mobilisation across the country as its main agenda as it seeks to expand its political influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The movement took its campaigns to Kwale County, a day after rebranding The Equitable Party (TEP) to Linda Mwananchi Movement party, with a renewed push to recruit members and establish structures across the 47 counties.

Speaking during the mobilisation tour, Mr Sifuna challenged President William Ruto's administration to respect the Constitution, protect the lives and rights of Kenyans, and ensure transparency in government projects.

He criticised what he termed secrecy surrounding major national projects, including the proposed Dangote oil refinery in Lamu and plans to privatise the Kenya Pipeline Corporation and the Kenya Ports Authority.

He said public participation must be guaranteed before the government undertakes projects involving national resources.

“We want the Constitution to be followed. Grabbing land and killing Kenyans is unconstitutional. All projects should be transparent,” said Mr Sifuna.

He said constitutionalism and accountability would remain the movement's guiding principles, adding that Kenyans must be allowed to exercise their constitutional rights without intimidation.

The movement also vowed to protect its votes in the 2027 elections, ruling out relying on court petitions to challenge disputed results.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya urged politicians to rally behind Mr Sifuna, saying the movement would deploy agents at all polling stations to prevent electoral manipulation.

“We are not going to petition at the Supreme Court. We will protect our votes. We will vote, count and by August 10 midnight we shall have known the results. We will not allow any manipulation by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission at the main tallying centre,” he said.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi said the movement was prioritising nationwide membership registration and urged Kenyans to register online to strengthen its grassroots networks.

Mr Sifuna also appealed to current ODM leaders to spare the family of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga from internal party disputes.

He urged those who believed in Mr Odinga's political ideals to remain in ODM, saying his political legacy should not be dragged into party wrangles.

In Kwale, former ODM county chairman Hassan Mwanyoa led the delegation in engagements with local political aspirants and grassroots leaders.

The caravan toured Samburu, Kinango, Mariakani, Kombani and Lunga Lunga before culminating in a rally at Ukunda Showground.

Mr Sifuna urged local politicians to respect grassroots leaders and give priority to community representatives.

The movement has announced plans to establish offices in all 47 counties by the end of November. It also plans to hold a National Delegates Convention on November 13 to formalise its leadership structure.

Mr Sifuna said Linda Mwananchi Movement already has representatives in 38 counties as it seeks to transform its growing political support into a nationwide grassroots network ahead of the 2027 elections.
