Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday denied reports that State House had barred a local television station from hosting him for a live interview on Sunday night.
Mr Gachagua had on Saturday, while in Kirinyaga County, publicly announced that he would be live on Inooro TV's Kiririmbi (flame) show from 7pm to 9pm.
He spoke when he attended a burial ceremony in Kabare village.
In his address, Mr Gachagua told the mourners to make a date with him as he informed them on several aspects of the past, present and future of Mountain politics.
However, on the day of the interview, Mr Gachagua was a no-show.
The host did not explain why the anticipated guest, Mr Gachagua, was not on set, sparking speculations online.
Some accused the government of threatening the media station against hosting the former DP.
Gachagua responds
When Nation.Africa reached out to the former deputy president to respond to the speculations, he replied that there was no State interference.
"That is not true... I am the one who requested the cancellation (of the show) after I got an urgent engagement," Mr Gachagua responded.
Mr Gachagua explained he was well and was indebted to his supporters who were disappointed, promising to reschedule.
Kirinyaga woman rep Ms Njeri Maina called Nation.Africa seeking to set records straight over the interview.
"It is true that Mr Gachagua intended to be on the show on Sunday evening. That was to be the case until he was caught up in urgent matters that could not wait. It is in Kirinyaga County where he promised his supporters to make a date with him on the show...I am sorry for this disappointment," Ms Maina said.
