State House murder: Man denies killing GSU officer
Kinyuka Kimunyi, a man suspected of killing a GSU officer, is help on October 13, 2025 at Kilimani Police Station.
The prime suspect in the murder of General Service Unit (GSU) officer attached to guard State House has been charged after he was found mentally fit to stand trial.
Kithuka Kimunyi denied the murdering officer Ramadhan Hamisi on October 10, 2025.
Appearing before Justice Diana Kavedza at the Kibera High Court in Nairobi, he pleaded "not guilty" to the murder charge after the trial judge admitted a mental assessment report from Kenyatta National Hospital confirming he was mentally fit to stand trial.
Kimunyi followed the proceedings virtually from the Nairobi Remand Prison.
The prosecution said the offence was committed at State House Gate D along Dennis Pritt Road in Nairobi, on October 10, 2025, at around 8:10 am.
The court heard that Ramadhan was on duty guarding the gate when he was attacked by a man armed with two traditional poisoned arrows
Khamisi sustained severe injuries and was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
Kimunyi applied to be released on bond, but the prosecution opposed it, indicating that it would contest any application for bail.
The prosecutor asked the court to direct the accused to file a formal application.
Defence lawyer Martin Nabende told the court that he intends to present oral submissions on whether Kimunyi should be released on bond.
The trial judge directed that the bail application be heard on May 12, 2026, when the matter will also be mentioned to schedule a date for pretrial directions.
Meanwhile, the accused will remain in prison custody until the next mention date.
