Talk of Town: The unbelievable lifestyles of State officers
A governor has set tongues wagging over the numerous foreign trips.
Where is the money?
A county chief from the western region was shocked when lawmakers told him to his face that they were not interested in 'unnecessary documentation', only in what they would take home. The team of legislators, who were on a fact-finding mission in the county, told the governor that he could send the documents later, but that they needed to be facilitated. The governor was taken aback, as he had been putting together documents and other supporting materials to defend himself against accusations of financial misappropriation.
A big man with an appetite for foreign travel
One of the government's key arms is struggling to pay debts incurred by one of its leaders, who has a passion for foreign travel, accompanied by a bevvy of beauties. On his recent trip to Dubai, the man racked up a bill of Sh4 billion, which his employer is now finding difficult to pay. According to our source at the institution, the man travelled with six girlfriends at the expense of taxpayers, as well as his chief of staff and two female members of staff from his office. Workers at the institution are tired of their boss, who never considers them for foreign trips. The appointing authority is also said to be fed up with him and can't wait to remove him after the 2027 elections.
Agency chief's lifestyle changes shock staff
A chairman in one of the State agencies has left workers astounded after acquiring two of the latest models of the top-tier Range Rover Sport barely two years after he was appointed to the position. Despite being a board chairman, our bird at the agency says the man reports to the office at 8 am and stays until late at night, leaving workers worried about what exactly he is up to. During his short tenure, the man has already created many vacancies at the agency, especially at the management level in order to place people who will play to his tune. However, several interviews done for the vacancies have been nullified and re-advertised.
State officer regrets taking up job
A State officer, who is also a party leader, was heard regretting why he took up a job in the government, saying the rewards are minimal. The man was heard complaining to one of the top leaders in Parliament that he now wants to become a Cabinet Secretary if Kenya Kwanza gets a second term in office. However, the appointing authority is reportedly not keen on retaining the man, even in his current role, as he adds no political value. The man's position has also been overshadowed by the entry of another leader who was incorporated into the Cabinet and has great grassroots mobilisation skills.
Bad PR in WhatsApp group
A veteran public relations expert has become a nuisance in a WhatsApp group with his abusive language and aggressive stance just a few days before a professional association's elections. The man, who was named in a corruption scandal during the Uhuru Kenyatta administration, not only disrespects his colleagues but has also roped in some members of the group in a bid to scare off "old" contestants. While many have no problem listening to views on the forthcoming polls, his abrasive manner has rubbed many the wrong way and is causing sharp divisions.
Hot-blooded official in a love triangle
A County Executive Committee Member and a Chief Officer are at loggerheads. They are fighting over a married senior county official. The woman, known for her charm, is rumoured to have had past romantic ties with the county minister before switching to the Chief Officer, who now allegedly enjoys her attention. Our little bird in the county whispered that the two exchanged harsh words during a recent meeting. Members of staff were shocked and are anxious to know who will be the casualty, as it is becoming clear that the two cannot continue working together.
