Raila Odinga Dies at 80
Raila Odinga, Kenya’s former Prime Minister and one of the country’s most influential political figures, has died at the age of 80 while receiving medical treatment in Kerala, India.
A towering figure in Kenyan politics for over four decades, Odinga was widely regarded as a champion of democracy, human rights, and electoral reform. He served as Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013 and ran for president five times, remaining a formidable voice in national affairs despite never ascending to the presidency.
News of his passing has sparked an outpouring of grief across Kenya and beyond. Political leaders from all sides have hailed his lifelong dedication to the nation and his profound influence on East African politics.

June 21, 1991: Mr. Raila Odinga who was the sole political detainee still held is freed from detention after 11 months.
