The Impeachment of DP Gachagua

The Senate began impeachment hearings against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, hours after the High Court ruled that the proceedings were constitutional.
The National Assembly voted on Tuesday, October 08, 2024 to impeach the Deputy President on 11 charges which included corruption, undermining the government and stirring ethnic hatred. Allegations that he had denied.
On Thursday, October 17, 2024, the Senate proceeded with impeachment hearings against the Deputy President and voted to dismiss him despite his absence from the proceedings.
"DP Gachagua ceases to hold office," Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said after Senators upheld his ouster.
