Reigning Olympics and world 800m champion, Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya, on Friday broke the world record in 1000m in Monaco Diamond League meeting.
Running only his first race over the distance, Wanyonyi won the race in 2 minutes, 11.83 seconds, lowering the record previously held by his compatriot Noah Ngeny by 0.13 seconds.
