Reigning champion Rosemary Wanjiru has declared she will be targeting a sub-2:15:00 on Sunday.
Assefa is one of the most successful runners on the Berlin course with double wins in 2022 and 2023.
Kenya’s Rosemary Wanjiru will line up for the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, knowing her title defence faces a massive test with the second fastest woman marathoner in the world, Ethiopian Tigst Assefa, in the elite field.
Wanjiru finished second in the 2022 edition of the German Marathon Majors race before returning in 2025 to claim the crown in a time of 2:21:05.
