Uganda’s Henry Kigongo Kasujja has vowed to dismantle Musa Shuza from Tanzania in their welterweight eight-round contest of the 12 Sports Rounds Promotion at Charter Hall, Nairobi on Saturday.
At the same time, Sweden-based Adam Belalia told his opponent Fred Okuo from Uganda that he won’t last more than two of their scheduled eight-round middleweight bout of the boxing extravaganza dubbed “Umeme Night, Hakuna Mchezo.”
The first of the 10 bouts will start at 6:30pm with the entry for spectators charged at Sh200m for regular, Sh1,500 VIP and 3,000 VVIP.
No Kenyan boxers will feature in the promotion after former Africa champion Rayton Okwiri and rising star Denzel Onyango failed to get opponents.
“I have been training for over three months now for this bout and feel ready to roll here in the Kenyan capital. Expect a brief but beautiful bout against Shuza,” said the 32-year-old Kasujja ahead of their main bout.
Kasujja, who has a record of 11 wins, a loss and a draw (11-I-1), said his speed and agility have improved since his unanimous decision victory against Tanzania’s Kennedy Ayoo in February.
“I love my upper cut execution more than any other part of my game and Shuza should expect the same force his fellow country man Ayoo met,” vowed Kassuja, who was initially set to take on Malawi's Charles Misanjo before the latter withdrew.
“I watched him box when I fought in Uganda last year and I know his medicine,” said the 43-year-old Shuza, who has five wins and seven losses (5-7-0). “My good combination and footwork will rattle him and prove him wrong.”
The 27-year-old Belalia, who was born and raised in Sweden capital Stockholm to Algerian parents, said he will be going for a first or second round knockout, depending on how much Okuo will take.
“I am confident it’s going to be a pleasant one to uphold my flawless run,” said Belalia, who is undefeated in nine bouts, including five KOs since his professional debut in 2022.
“I have seen some of Okuo’s fights but he has nothing special and I will get him out early. I am always ready,” said Belalia, who is on his first tour of Kenya. “I know the country for its rich athletics history.”
Belalia said victory will go a long way in his preparations for the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) welterweight title fight in a few months’ time.
“I have been boxing since I was a kid. I really enjoy it. It gives me purpose,” said Belalia, who is known for his jab, straight hand and uppercut.
“I will let my jabs talk in the ring,” said Okuo, who has two wins, five losses and a draw.
Joshua Sewankambo, the 12 Sports Rounds Promotions Legal Officer, regretted that Okwiri and Onyango failed to get opponents.
“We would have loved to see them fight but we couldn’t secure their opponents on time. They will definitely feature in our next promotion that will have title fights,” said Sewankambo.
