Sports tribunal bars Manoj from running Cricket Kenya

The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) has barred embattled Cricket Kenya (CK) chairman Manoj Patel, and Counties Representative Kennedy Obuya from transacting any business on behalf of the sports body until a case filed against them is heard and determined.
The orders were issued on October 3 following a petition filed by seven CK board members namely, Chief Executive Officer Ronald Bukusi, Development Director Thomas Odoyo, Director Women’s Cricket Pearlyne Omamo, Mary Maina, Berly Oyugi Tariq Iqbal and Pauline Njeru.
Access CK offices
Manoj, and Obuya or any person acting on their behalf are now not allowed to access CK offices or utilise the federation’s assets.
The duo have also been prohibited from publishing or issuing any statement on behalf of CK, and giving instructions to the federation’s bankers or employees.
“Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, the respondents are specifically restrained from; issuing or purporting to issue instructions to the eighth claimant’s bankers or employees; utilizing the eighth claimant’s intellectual property, including its letterheads, seals, and logos; making, publishing, or disseminating any public statements purporting to emanate from or bind the eighth claimant and/or its board; and accessing, entering, or otherwise interfering with the eighth claimant’s operations and office premises,” read part of the orders signed by SDT’s Allan Mola Owinyi.
The case will be heard on October 21.
Allegations of corruption
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is probing allegations of corruption against Manoj and Obuya.
The CK board has been embroiled in incessant wrangles, with Manoj and Obuya on one side and Bukusi, Odoyo, Omamo, Maina, Oyugi and Njeru on the other side.
The government and ICC, following meetings with the warring factions last week, called for the CK members to resolve their differences. The government warned that failure to do so would risk intervention by the state.
