2024 Chan: Avoid Thika Road on Thursday unless you are heading to Kasarani

The National Police Service has announced road closures and diversions on Thursday in Nairobi during the second match day of Group “A” teams in the 2024 African Nations Championships.
The Officer Commanding Traffic, Nairobi County, Joseph Chirchir, has urged the public to avoid using Thika Road unless they are going to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on the day. Harambee Stars are scheduled to play Angola on Thursday at the 48,000-seater Kasarani facility from 7pm. Tickets for the fixture sold out on Tuesday.
Motorists from Nairobi, who normally use Thika Road to access Juja, Ruiru, and Thika, have been advised to use Kiambu or Limuru roads instead.
Matatus ferrying passengers to the Kasarani area will be required to use Ruaraka-Baba Dogo Road and Ngomongo Road to the Ngomongo roundabout.
Motorists from Thika Road moving towards Nairobi CBD will be diverted to the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.
Roads around Nyayo National Stadium, where DR Congo and Zambia will clash from 4pm have also been affected.
Police have advised motorists of the closure of sections of Doughlas Wakiihuri Road, Langata Road, and Mombasa Road.
Doughlas Wakiihuri Road will be closed from the Madaraka roundabout to the Bunyala roundabout.
Closure on Langata Road will affect the section of the road between the Madaraka roundabout and one side of the Lusaka Road roundabout.
The section from the Lusaka Road roundabout to one side of the Bunyala roundabout is the part of Mombasa Road that will be closed.
As a result of the closures, motorists from Mombasa Road going to Nairobi CBD have been advised to use Likoni-Enterprise Road at General Motors or Southern Bypass at Ole Sereni.
Those seeking to access Nairobi CBD from Langata Road have been guided to use Raila Odinga Road (Mbagathi Way) or Muhoho Road at the Mbagathi roundabout.
DR Congo, two-time winners of the competition, will be playing their second match of the tournament after losing 1-0 to Harambee Stars last Sunday at Kasarani, while perennial campaigners Zambia will be opening their campaign.
