Kenya has landed a tough group for the delayed 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) set for August.

According to the draw conducted on Wednesday night at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Harambee Stars have been drawn in arguably the 'pool of death' where they will come up against two-time champions Morocco (2018, 2020) and Democratic Republic of Congo 2009, 2016).

Also in Pool "A" are Zambia and Angola. Kenya will host the biennial competition for homegrown players alongside Tanzania and Uganda.

Co-hosts Tanzania are in pool "B' where they will come up against Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Central African Republic.

Uganda headline pool 'C' where they will face Niger and two countries that will seal their slots in the final qualifying round. Defending champions Senegal will renew hostilities with Nigeria in Pool 'D', which also has Sudan and Congo.

The 19 team tournament, which was initially set for February 1 to 28, was postponed to August this year. Kenya’s McDonald Mariga, Tanzania’s Mrisho Ngasa, and Uganda’s Hassan Wasswa were the draw assistants, while CAF Director of Competitions, Samson Adamu, oversaw the process.

In a video message before the draw, Caf president Patrck Motsepe expressed his appreciation to Presidents William Ruto (Kenya), Samia Suluhu (Tanzania), and Yoweri Museveni (Uganda) for their collaboration to ensure a successful tournament.

"The renovations of stadiums, training fields, infrastructure, hotels, and hospitals in the three countries reflect significant progress and motivation, evident during my tour," the message noted. "The aim was to unite the three East African nations, alongside others from different parts of Africa."

Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya graced the event alongside his counterparts from Uganda and Tanzania, Peter Ogwang and Palamagamba John Aidan Mwaluko.

Kenya FA President Mohammed Hashim, Tanzania FA President Wallace Karia and Uganda FA President Moses Magogo were also in attendance.
