AFC Leopards move to within two points from Gor in FKF-PL title race

The race for the 2025/26 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) title intensified on Sunday after AFC Leopards reduced Gor Mahia’s lead to just two points.
Pursuing their first FKF-PL crown since 1998, Leopards added more life into that ambition with a 2-0 romp over hosts Murang’a Seal at Nyayo National Stadium.
Utility player Ronald Sichenje fired ‘Ingwe” ahead in the 53rd minute from a Samuel Ssenyonjo’s assist.
In the 71st minute, top scorer Joseph Waithira squandered a glorious chance to draw Seal level when he failed to convert from the spot.
Leopards’ goalkeeper James Ssetuba dived in the right direction, denying Waithira a chance to increase his tally at the top of the scorer’s chart.
He has notched 15 goals. Eight minutes from time, substitute Hassan Beja doubled “Ingwe’s” advantage from a James Kinyanjui’s assist.
Aware of how crucial the victory was to their title ambitions, “Ingwe” die-hards in their usual fashion, with the festivities spilling into the Central Business District.
After playing 26 matches, Gor lead with 57 points while Ingwe are second with 55 points from 27 matches. With the stiff competition between the bitter rivals, any slip-up by either side could prove costly in the title race.
Gor faltered on Saturday after drawing 0-0 with Kariobangi Sharks at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani.
Gor are aiming to reclaim the title they last won in 2024 and extend their triumphs to an impressive 22. Seal are eighth with 38 points from 27 matches.

On Sunday at MISC, Nairobi United bounced back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Shabana. Forwards Duncan Omala and Michael Karamor put “Naibois’ on the path to victory with goals in the 28th and 38th minutes re-spectively. Ugandan Mustafa Kizza netted Nairobi's third goal in added time.
Ahead of the match, Nairobi were winless in four matches; losing 1-0 to Leop-ards and 2-1 to Ulinzi Stars and drawing 0-0 and 1-1 with APS Bomet and Mara Sugar respectively.
Following the win, Nairobi moved three places up on the log to seventh with 38 points. Shabana are fifth with 43 points.
It was the second defeat for Shabana’s interim coach, Andrew Ongwae, further complicating their title chances this season. Ongwaae replaced coach Peter Okidi, who was fired following consecutive losses against Leopards (5-1) and Sharks (2-1).
Shabana are eying their maiden league title.
At Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga, KCB defeated hosts Bidco United 1-0. KCB’s striker Kelvin Etemesi scored the match’s lone goal. The bankers are sixth with 40 points.
For Bidco, they are strong relegation candidates as they lie second-last in the 18-team league with 22 points.
