Coach Julien Mette’s project of rebuilding Tusker FC on Monday received another lift after the brewers beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) match at Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi.
In other matches, title hopefuls Kakamega Homeboyz beat newcomers APS Bomet 2-1 at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, while Bidco United registered a 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars at Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga.
At Green Stadium in Awendo, Mara Sugar thumped Sofapaka 3-1. Sharks, Bidco, Bomet, Ulinzi and Sofapaka are all battling to escape relegation this season.

Appointed new Tusker coach on February 20, Frenchman Mette is tasked with turning around the fortunes of the 12-time champions.
Aware that the task won’t be easy, the 44-year-old, who holds a Uefa Pro coaching licence, gave himself five matches to reshape the club’s performance.
Two wins in three matches
“My philosophy (at Tusker) has been well received because I have seen a lot of change in terms of possession play and players confidence,” said Mette after Monday's match.
“Now we need to work on details like maturity, how to protect the score and some defensive changes but that is more individual than collective… I hope to win the cup (FKF Cup) and finish in a good ranking on the table (FKF-PL),” he added.

Monday's victory over Sharks is the second win he has guided Tusker to, in three matches.
In his first game in charge on February 21, Tusker fell 1-0 away to Shabana at Gusii Stadium in Kisii. The brewers then bounced back in their next encounter, edging Murang’a Seal 1-0 at Wang’uru Stadium.
17-match winless run
Against Sharks, Tusker scored the winner through Ian Simiyu in the 80th minute after Sharks’ goalkeeper Sebastian Wekesa had poorly parried the ball in his direction.
Earlier, the brewers had taken the lead in the 17th minute through Francis Oduor’s header before Sharks equalised two minutes later through teenager Humphrey Aroko. Despite Sharks’ struggle this season, Aroko has been outstanding in their campaign.

Following the victory, Tusker moved from 10th to seventh on the log with 34 points from 23 matches. Gor Mahia lead the standings on 49 points from 22 matches. Following the loss, Sharks remained 14th with 22 points from 23 matches.
Before Bidco gunned down Ulinzi, thanks to an own goal by Bill Okite, the club had been on a 17-match winless run, their last win in the league have been on October 29, 2025 when they beat Ulinzi 2-1. In those 17 matches, Bidco lost 10 and drew seven.
Bidco are 15th on the with 20 points while Ulinzi are placed 16th with 19 points.
Ulinzi, who are four-time league champions, have not won in their last eight matches. Bomet are 17th with 19 points while 2009 champions Sofapaka are bottom of the table with 14 points.
