Newcomers 3K Football Club have once again demonstrated their competitiveness in the 2026/27 Football Kenya Federation (FKF-PL) with a 2-1 win over seasoned top-flight league campaigners Posta Rangers at Police Sacco Stadium on Monday.
Former champions Kenya Police continued their resurgence under interim coach Anthony Akhulia, inflicting Shabana’s first loss of the season, 1-0 at Afraha Stadium, while 12-time champions Tusker bounced back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Mara Sugar at SportPesa Arena in Murang’a.
At Vapor Grounds in Ngong, four-time champions Ulinzi Stars secured their first win of the season, gunning down Mathare United 2-1.
3K was established in 2003 by three neighbouring villages in Embu North – Kagumori, Kathangariri and Kibugu.
The name 3K stands for the three villages. The club earned automatic promotion to FKF-PL after finishing second behind champions Migori Youth in last season’s National Super League.
Despite their newcomers’ status, 3K got their campaign off to an impressive start, holding a formidable Mara Sugar to an entertaining 2-2 draw. They followed that performance with a commendable 1-1 away draw against Bandari.
Their next assignment was the highly anticipated “Mlima Derby” at Moi Stadium in Embu, a clash which carried extra significance since both sides hail from the central region where Mount Kenya is located.
It was the debutants who claimed the bragging rights, winning 2-1. Against APS Bomet, 3K suffered their first defeat, 3-0.
The newcomers bounced back in style against Rangers to climb to fifth on the league table with eight points, four shy of leaders and record champions Gor Mahia.
Posta took the lead in the 47th minute when Mark Shaban capitalised on the space afforded to him by the visitors’ defence inside the box to fire a low shot into the back of the net.

3K drew level in the 51st minute through Sally Ali’s powerful shot from outside the box. Ten minutes later, 3K netted the winner when captain Daniel Wabwire headed in a free-kick by Victor Matete.
“The match had been tough, as you know; Posta is a team with a lot of experience. The winning mentality started in training, and I am happy that we have achieved it against such a tough opponent,” said 3K coach Nicodemus Omasete.
He added that the win is a big motivation for his side heading into this weekend’s tough match against giants AFC Leopards.
Akhulia has been in charge of 2024 champions Police on an interim basis following the sacking of Nicholas Muyoti and his assistant coach John Baraza on October 27.
Akhulia guided Police to a 1-1 draw against debutants Mombasa United before securing the team’s first win of the season, 1-0 over Ulinzi. Brian Chonjo netted Kenya Police’s winning goal. The law enforcers are expected to name Frenchman Raphael Pilato as their new head coach.
