Kenya Police FC parted ways with head coach Nicholas Muyoti and his assistant, John Baraza, on Wednesday, just two rounds into the new Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

Kenya Police chairman Munga Nyale said the duo had been released to concentrate on their CAF A Licence coaching studies, as the club sought a suitably qualified and experienced coach to take over.

“We realized that the two were spending a lot of time on their studies and were not having enough sessions with the players. The league requires us to have a coach with a CAF coaching licence, so we have allowed them to concentrate on their studies as we look for a new coach to steer us this season,” Nyale told Nation Sport.

The decision follows Kenya Police's 2-1 defeat to AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday.

Police, the 2025 league champions, had opened their 2026/27 campaign with a meek 1-1 draw against league newcomers Migori Youth.

“We are targeting the league title. In the next five days, we shall have a new coach. For now, the other assistant coach and the technical bench will oversee the team’s training sessions,” Nyale added.

Second assistant coach Isaac Njeri will take charge of training alongside Clinton Kinanga, who doubles up as a player and technical bench manager.

Muyoti confirmed that he had been released together with Baraza.

The former Kenya international said his immediate priority was to complete his coaching studies.

“It is okay; I will now concentrate on my studies. The future is bright,” he told Nation Sport.

Kenya Police appointed Muyoti and Baraza as head coach and assistant coach, respectively, on January 16, 2026 to replace Serbian tactician Dusan Stojanovic, who was dismissed following a poor run of results.

Stojanovic had succeeded Burundian coach Etienne Ndayiragije, who guided the law enforcers to their maiden league title.

One of the major setbacks Muyoti suffered in his tenure at Kenya Police was a 2-1 loss to Tusker in the Mozzart Bet Cup final at Kwale County Stadium on June 14.

Police finished third with 55 points, 14 behind leaders Gor Mahia last season as their reign as champions came to an end.

Muyoti becomes the first Kenyan Premier League coach to lose his job this season.

Kenya Police face league debutants Mombasa United away on Sunday in their next FKF-PL fixture.
