Gor back to league summit in see-saw contest, but for how long?
Gor Mahia players celebrate after their 3-2 victory over Murang’a Seal in an FKF Premier League match at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on January 14, 2026.
Gor Mahia on Sunday restored a six-point lead at the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) standings following a dominant 3-0 win over KCB at the Nyayo National Stadium.
In the match, which was delayed by 20 minutes due to a heavy downpour in Nairobi, Gor finished the job in the first half, courtesy of goals from midfielder Enock Morrison, winger Shariff Musa, and Samuel Kapen.
Record 21-time Kenyan champions Gor Mahia now top the standings with 46 points from 21 matches, while their bitter rivals AFC Leopards are second with 40 points from 20 matches.
On Saturday, title-hungry AFC Leopards had cut Gor’s lead at the top of the league standings to three points after defeating Posta Rangers 2-1 at the same venue.
In other league matches played on Sunday, defending champions Kenya Police battled to a barren draw with APS Bomet at a waterlogged Police Sacco Stadium in South ‘C’ in Nairobi, while Mara Sugar compounded Ulinzi Stars’ woes with a 2-1 win at Awendo Green Stadium in Migori.
In addition to completing a double over KCB, Sunday’s win saw 21-time champions K’Ogalo extend their unbeaten run in the league against the bankers to seven matches. In those meetings, Gor have Mahia won three times. The other four encounters ended in a draw.
KCB’s last triumph over Gor Mahia was in 2023.
KCB have lost eight league matches this season, complicating their chances of lifting their maiden FKF-PL title this season.
The bankers sit eighth in the table of standings with 29 points from 21 matches.
At Police Sacco Stadium, the waterlogged pitch made it difficult for both Police and Bomet to create clear-cut scoring chances.
The waterlogged pitch revealed poor drainage at the facility, which is among those designated as training grounds for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals.
Sitting seventh with 31 points, Kenya Police are winless in four straight matches. On the other hand, Bomet, who are fighting to avoid relegation, are 14th with 19 points.
Out of 21 matches that they have played in the league this season, Bomet have registered just four wins, recorded seven draws and lost 10 matches. In defeating Ulinzi 2-1, Mara Sugar brought to an end their seven-match league winless run.
The win compounded Ulinzi’s woes as they remained rooted in the relegation zone, sitting 16th with 18 points. The soldiers are just four points above the bottom-placed Sofapaka.
Mara Sugar are 12th with 24 points.
