What you need to know:

  • Gor Mahia could extend their lead at the top of the Premier League standings to six points with a win over APS Bomet
  • In other league matches played on Saturday, Shabana kept alive their title chance with a 2-0 win over Posta Rangers.

Gor Mahia could extend their lead at the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League standings to six points with a win over APS Bomet at Wilson Kiprugut Chumo Stadium on Sunday.

K’Ogalo’s bitter rivals, AFC Leopards, placed second on the table, could have reduced their points deficit in the title race but stumbled to a barren draw against Bandari at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa on Saturday.

Gor tops the log with 40 points, three more than second-placed Leopards. Shabana are third with 34 points.

In other league matches played on Saturday, Shabana kept alive their title chance with a 2-0 win over Posta Rangers at Wanguru Stadium in Kirinyaga County, while Tusker fell 3-1 to Mathare United at Police Sacco Stadium.

At Mbaraki, the Dockers’ goalkeeper Allaine Ngeleka produced a man-of-the-match performance, denying Ingwe several times and in the process, ending their four-match winning run.

Leopards coach Fred Ambani said his side were unlucky.

“We will continue to work on our finishing but today I cannot blame my players because they gave their best. Bandari’s goalkeeper was also on top of his game. He has done a very good job,” said Ambani.

Admitting that Leopards were the better side in the encounter, Bandari’s coach Bernard Mwalala was satisfied with the draw.

“It was Leopards against our goalkeeper,” said Mwalala.

Only one goal has been scored in the last three meetings between Leopards and Bandari. The last victory came in December 2024 when Leopards triumphed 2-0.

Bandari’s last win over Ingwe was in October 2023 when they triumphed 1-0.  Chasing their maiden league title, Bandari are placed seventh with 28 points.

Seeking to reclaim the title they last won in 2024, record 22-time champions Gor will be keen to gain revenge on debutantes Bomet, who hammered them 4-1 in the first leg in November.
