Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has appointed Dennis Gicheru as the acting Secretary General/Chief Executive Officer, replacing Harold Ndege, who fell out with the federation’s executive office over managerial issues.
Ndege, who had sought legal redress over his removal, suffered a blow on the same day after the Labour Relations Court in Milimani allowed FKF to appoint a stand-in CEO pending the hearing and determination of the appeal.
“FKF cannot appoint a substantive CEO but an interim one until the matter is heard and concluded in court,” Justice Bernard Manani ruled.

Gicheru, a lawyer and former CEO of Wazito Football Club, also featured for the defunct club and Posta Rangers during his playing days.
“We wish to announce that FKF Head of Legal Affairs Dennis Gicheru has been appointed Acting General Secretary/CEO pending the advertisement and substantive filling of the position. The appointment takes effect immediately,” said the federation.
Ndege went to court last month seeking to stop the federation from removing him from office.
Ndege was appointed FKF CEO on February 14, 2025, after “Team Fresh” victory in the December 7, 2024 polls.
Fall out with Hussein
He took over the office from Patrick Korir, who had served for four months following the exit of Barry Otieno to vie for the FKF top seat.
“For now, I have nothing to say since the issue is in the court and I have confidence that justice will be served,” said Ndege.
Ndege, a former Kenya international, and FKF president Hussein Mohammed have not been seeing eye to eye on how to run the federation.

In an earlier interview with the Daily Nation Sports Hussein said Ndege was a difficult person to work with and confessed that their differences could not be reconciled.
“I have tried to shield him, but he has not changed, and we have been at loggerheads over many issues at the federation. He doesn’t want to take responsibility even for the mismanagement of preparations of national teams,” said Hussein then.
“Even on issues which require my attention, he has been going behind my back and taking action without involving me, some concerning finances,” the federation boss said.
The appointment of Gicheru comes amidst murmurs from a section of officials and football stakeholders from Nyanza who reckon that a CEO should be appointed from the region according to a pre-election pact they signed with Hussein.
