The long-awaited Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections are back on track.
The KFF county elections will now be held Thursday following a High Court decision Wednesday to lift orders that barred the exercise from proceeding last Saturday.
The FKF Electoral Board chairman Hesbon Owilla told Nation Sport that the national elections will be held on December 7 as originally scheduled.
“Following the hearing today (Tuesday), we are pleased to inform you that the stay orders have been lifted. The Football Kenya Federation elections will now take place on November 14, 2024,” said the Electoral Board in a statement signed by Owilla and Secretary Marceline Sande.
“Please be assured that we will remain unwaveringly committed to overseeing an election process that is free, fair, transparent, credible, and verifiable in all respects,” the board said.
The polls failed to take place on Saturday after lawyer Gordon Ogado got conservatory orders from the same court pending the hearing of the matter yesterday. Some 44 county branch elections were to be held.
Contestants in Baringo, Kirinyaga, Makueni, and Tharaka Nithi are unopposed and will win their seats without elections taking place.
In Homa Bay, Mandera, Nakuru, Samburu, Tana River, and Trans Nzoia counties, there will be no elections for the chairperson and running mate positions as all the candidates are unopposed.
Nairobi has been split into two counties – Nairobi West and Nairobi East.
Those elected county chairpersons will vote in the national elections to elect the FKF president, vice president, and NEC members.
Ninety-four delegates will vote in the high-stake national elections.
