Sunday’s two Group “A” matches of the 2024 African Nations Championship (Chan), including that pitting hosts Kenya and giants Morocco, will again see Nairobi road users contend with traffic disruptions due to road closures.

“Harambee Stars” will face Morocco’s “Atlas Lions” at the 48,000-seater Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani from 3pm.

It will be followed by the clash between Angola and Zambia at the 18,000-seater Nyayo National Stadium from 6pm.

According to a statement released by the Officer Commanding Traffic Nairobi County Joseph Chirchir, the public should avoid Thika Superhighway unless they are going to Kasarani to watch the eagerly-awaited match between Kenya and Morocco.

Motorists from Nairobi’s Central Business District who normally use Thika Road to access Juja, Ruiru, and Thika, have been advised to use Kiambu Road or Limuru Road instead.

Matatus ferrying passengers to the Kasarani area will be required to use Ruaraka-Baba Dogo Road and Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo roundabout.

Meanwhile, motorists from Thika Road moving towards Nairobi CBD have been advised to use either Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.

Douglas Wakiihuri Road will be closed from the Madaraka roundabout to the Bunyala roundabout. Closure on Langata Road will affect the section of the road between the Madaraka roundabout and one side of the Lusaka Road roundabout.

The section from the Lusaka Road roundabout to one side of the Bunyala roundabout will be the part of Mombasa Road that will be closed.

As a result of the closures, motorists from Mombasa Road going to Nairobi CBD have been advised to use Likoni-Enterprise Road at General Motors or Southern Bypass at Ole Sereni.

Those aiming to access Nairobi CBD from Langata Road have been guided to use Raila Odinga Road (Mbagathi Way) or Muhoho Road at the Mbagathi roundabout.

The traffic disruptions were witnessed last Sunday when Kenya faced the Democratic Republic of Congo at Kasarani and Angola clashed with Morocco at Nyayo National Stadium.

Kenya defeated DRC 1-0 while Morocco thumped Angola 2-0. It was the same case on Thursday when Kenya clashed with Angola at Kasarani and DRC faced Zambia at Nyayo. Kenya drew 1-1- with Angola while DRC defeated Zambia 2-0.
