Kenya vs Madagascar: Sonko files complaint against Chan officials, demands rematch
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has filed a formal complaint before the Confederation of African Football (Caf) disciplinary board against match officials who presided over the recent quarter-final clash between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Madagascar.
Sonko alleges bias and misconduct by the referees, claiming two legitimate goals for Kenya were wrongfully disallowed, ultimately costing the national team a chance to advance.
He now wants Caf to annul the results of the game, order a rematch, or alternatively award the victory to Kenya.
Sonko has accused referees and match officials of bias in favour of Madagascar during the Chan quarter-final on August 22.
Sonko argues that two legitimate goals for Kenya were wrongfully disallowed, with the officials failing to review the incidents through VAR or seek input from team captains and coaches as required by CAF rules.
The former governor is seeking the annulment of the penalty shoot-out, a possible rematch, or disciplinary action against the referees for allegedly breaching Caf’s code of conduct.
The case is now pending before the Caf Disciplinary Board for determination.
