Trinity Starlets and Kayole Starlets clash in a high-stakes Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League (FKF-WPL)  match on Saturday .

The match kicks off at 1pm on Saturday at Comboni Grounds in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

The league enters the eighth round of matches this weekend,  with five other games scheduled elsewhere across the country.

Nakuru-based Trinity Starlets currently lead the log with 17 points from seven matches after winning five  matches and drawing two, while Kayole are second with 16 points from eight matches (five wins, one draw, two losses).

At the same time,  four-time champions Vihiga Queens play defending champions Kenya Police Bullets, both seeking redemption after losing their previous matches.

Vihiga, coached by Boniface Nyamunyamuh, had a rough start to the season, losing its first match 2-0 to Kayole. Bullets also suffered their first defeat of the season a week ago, falling 1-0 to rivals Ulinzi Starlets.

After these losses, Vihiga dropped to sixth place on the standings with 11 points,  and Bullets  to third with 15 points. Each of the teams have played six matches.

Both teams returned to action last weekend following a two-week break during which some of their players were on international duty with Harambee Starlets, who played two friendly matches against Algeria last month.

Bullets head to the match as favourites, having won one of their last two league meetings between the two sides  by a 1-0 scoreline. The other meeting between the two teams ended in a  0-0 draw.

David Vijego’s Kenya Police Bullets have scored 22 goals, the  highest in the league, while conceding three. Their biggest win was a 9-1 victory over Kisumu All Starlets in September.

On the other hand,  western Kenya-based Vihiga Queens has scored 13 goals and shipped in four. Their biggest win this season was a 6-0 success over Kisumu-based Kisped Queens.

Beyond team rivalry, individual honours will also be at stake, as Vihiga and Bullets players lead the Golden Boot race. Striker Martha Amunyolete currently tops the scorers charts with eight goals, followed by Ugandan winger Margaret Kunihira who has scored seven goals. Both have achieved the feat in six matches.

Elsewhere, fifth-placed Zetech Sparks will host newly-promoted Soccer Assassins (ninth) at the Zetech University grounds in Mang’u,  Kiambu County on Saturday.
