Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya made the announcement on Thursday evening in Nairobi. Mvurya had on Wednesday said that the government had appealed to Caf to allow fans to fill up the 48,000-seater stadium to capacity for the match, which will start at 5pm on Friday.
The government made the request through the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
Caf capped fan attendance for matches involving Kenya to 60 per cent (27,000) following security breaches at the stadium ahead of Harambee Stars’ Group ‘A’ match against Morocco on August 10.
“They (Caf) have considered favourably the appeal that was put forward by FKF on behalf of the Kenyan government, and we are happy to announce to Kenyans that we will have 80 per cent attendance for Kasarani Stadium which translates to 36,000 fans,” Mvurya told the media in Nairobi on Thursday.
He urged fans attending the match to adhere to all security regulations so that Caf can allow the stadium to be filled to capacity in the next match.

With the initial allocation of 27,000 tickets selling out on Wednesday, the ticketing portal chan.mookh.com is expected to reopen to allow fans to purchase the additional tickets.
Regular tickets for the quarter-final matches are selling at Sh250 each. Previously for the group stage matches, the regular tickets were selling at Sh200.
Security breaches
The 27,000 capacity limit was strictly implemented in Kenya’s final Group ‘A’ match against Zambia on Sunday.
Kenya won the match 1-0 courtesy of striker Ryan Ogam’s 75th minute goal. In the match against Morocco, scores of fans forced their ways into the stadium after jumping over the perimeter wall.
In addition to capping the stadium’s attendance at 60 per cent, Caf also fined Kenya Sh6.4 million and warned that it would relocate Harambee Stars matches to either Uganda or Tanzania if there is a repeat of security breaches at the stadium.
To mitigate the crowd trouble, the government and LOC announced the setting up of six fans zones at Uhuru Park in the CBD, Lucky Summer – Ngomongo near Kasarani, Dandora Stadium, Utalii – Stima Club, Jacaranda Grounds, and Kibera DC Grounds.
On Wednesday, Mvurya announced that more fan zones will be established with the new center being Ruiru, Dagoretti, Camp Toyoyo , and Babadogo. In partnership.
Fans in Mombasa will also follow the action live on giant screens in the city.
In partnership with the Mombasa County Government, six more fan zones will also be set up in the county at Changamwe Volleyball Grounds, St. Mary’s Bangladesh Grounds, Shelly Beach in Likoni, at Hassan Joho Stadium, and at Bilima Grounds.
