Points-hungry Leopards prey on Sharks as they resume title hunt

Title-starved AFC Leopards have a chance this weekend to close the gap on league leaders Gor Mahia when they host Kariobangi Sharks at Nyayo Stadium in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match.
A win for Leopards on Sunday will see them move to within four points of Gor Mahia, who have no fixture this weekend.
Title hopefuls Shabana will be aiming to return to winning ways when they host Murang’a Seal at Gusii Stadium in Kisii on Sunday.
The relegation battle is also set to intensify with bottom-placed Sofapaka chasing their first win of the year away at fellow strugglers Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday.
Seven matches are on the cards this weekend.
Two fixtures have been postponed involving clubs with several players in the national team, Harambee Stars, that is on a 2026 Fifa Series assignment in Rwanda.
The affected fixtures are, Gor against Tusker and Kenya Police versus Mathare, which have been rescheduled to Thursday.
Leopards' title drought
K’Ogalo tops the 18-team league standings with 56 points. Leopards are second with 49 points from the same number of matches while defending champions Police are third on 40 points.
Shabana, also on 40 points, lie fourth because of an inferior goal difference.
With nine round of matches remaining to the end of the season, teams, either end of the table will be wary of any slip-ups.
Beyond seeking to reclaim the title they won in 2024, Gor are also aiming to extend their record wins to 22 titles.
Leopards are chasing their first league crown since 1998. and will be hungry to get the job done against Sharks.
The two sides battled to a 1-1 draw in the first leg on November 23. After their 4-1 loss to Mathare on March 14 at Nyayo, frustrated Leopards fans stormed the pitch demanding the sacking of the club coach Fred Ambani.
However, Ingwe bounced back with identical 1-0 victories over Nairobi United and Tusker.
“Our job is not to talk but to deliver results. Sometimes they don’t come, sometimes they go your way. That’s football,” Ambania retorted.
