Tickets for the highly anticipated friendly match between German giants FC Bayern Munich and Dutch’s champions AFC Ajax to inaugurate the 60,000-seater Raila Odinga International Stadium on January 5, 2027 go on sale on Thursday at 6pm.
But even before the official sale begins, fraudsters are already taking advantage of the allure of the fixture by advertising bogus tickets to unsuspecting fans.
The authentic website where fans can purchase tickets for the historic match is talantasportscity.com.
Nation Sports has established from a Sports Ministry official who did not want to be named that the price for the cheapest ticket will cost Sh2,500.
According to talantasportscity.com, tickets have been classified into seven categories, namely: level 1, 2, 3, gold, platinum, skyboxes and accessible. Level 1, 2 and 3 categories have 28, 20 and 36 sections, respectively.
Gold and platinum have five sections each while the skyboxes have 58 sections. The accessible category has 28 sections.
The internet has been abuzz with discussions on the price of the tickets with some Kenyans expressing incredulity that a ticket could cost more than Sh10,000.
However, this price is quoted from a parody site, talantasportcity.com that even has VVIP tickets retailing at Sh80,000.
“Those are fraudsters using that site to scam people,” the ministry official said.
Bayern will be playing in Africa for the second time in their history while Ajax will be making a first competitive appearance on the continent
President Ruto’s announcement on October 28, that the two Europeans teams will play the first match at the stadium eliciting mixed reaction from the football world. While many have welcomed the development, several others have voiced their opposition.
Having the two teams play in Kenya is expected to cost hundreds of millions of shillings.
On Monday, six Kenyans filed a petition in the High Court seeking to stop the government from committing public funds to the match, and demanding disclosure of the financial arrangements behind it.

However, the High Court on Tuesday declined to certify the matter as urgent.
“I am not satisfied that the petition and the notice of motion dated 1/11/2026 are urgent and or that they should be considered ex parte substantively in terms of the interim orders sought,” Justice Aburili ruled.
The court directed the petitioners to serve the petition and notice of motion on all respondents and interested parties.
The respondent and interested parties were given 10 days thereafter to file and serve their responses. The matter will be mentioned on November 25, 2026, for further directions.
