Tusker FC, Kenya Police fight for Kenyan ticket to Caf Confederation Cup

When Kenya Police FC coach Nicholas Muyoti leads his charges against Tusker in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup final on Sunday, June 14, 2026, afternoon at Kwale Stadium in Kwale County, he will be eying more than just the coveted ticket to next season’s Caf Confederation Cup and the Sh3 million winners’ prize.
The former Kenya international will also be aiming to achieve the rare feat of winning back-to-back FKF Cup titles with different clubs. For the fourth successive season, the domestic cup has been dubbed the Mozzart Bet Cup following the continued sponsorship by gaming firm, Mozzart Bet.
In February, Mozzart Bet renewed its sponsorship of the competition for another three years in a deal worth Sh90 million.

The high-stakes final pitting the two former champions, Police and Tusker, will kick off at 3:30 pm after the conclusion of an exhibition match between Kwale United and Denmark FC at the same venue.
Earlier at 11:30 am, KCB and Bandari locked horns in the third-place play-off.
Police clinched their maiden FKF Cup title in 2024 while Tusker boasts four wins; in 1975, 1989, 1993 and in 2016.
Last season, at the FKF Cup final at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, Muyoti guided debutants Nairobi United to a historic 2–1 victory over record champions Gor Mahia.
The 49-year-old former Kenya international then steered Nairobi to the group stage of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup before resigning in January to join Police.
In a phone interview with Nation Sport, the Police’s Chief Executive Officer Japheth Munyendo cited Muyoti’s role in guiding Nairobi to the group stage of the Caf Confederation Cup as one of the key factors behind the club’s decision to appoint him.
Police had failed to qualify for the group stage of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.
“We failed to achieve our goal of qualifying for the group stage (of the CAF Champions League). Muyoti achieved that with Nairobi United in the CAF Confederation Cup and so he is competent, qualified and aligned to our vision,” Munyendo said then.
While Muyoti reckons that the match will be tough, he is confident that his side will carry the day. “I want us to come back with the trophy. It will not be easy but we will fight like men,” said coach Muyoti during the team’s dinner at Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Police’s chairman Nyale Munga has promised to reward the team’s playing unit with Sh 2 million should they win the match.
But another reason behind the two teams’ determination to clinch the FKF Cup is that it would offer a consolation for them after flopping in the 2025/26 FKF-Premier League. The law enforcers finished third in the league with 55 points, 14 points shy of champions Gor.
Tusker finished a disappointing ninth with 45 points.

After taking charge of his first match as Tusker’s coach, which the brewers lost 1- 0 to Shabana on February 21, Julien Mette revealed that he had shifted his focus to the FKF Cup since their chances of clinching the league were slim as they trailed leaders Gor by many points.
On Saturday, June 13, Mette said reaching the domestic cup final is an opportunity for his side to make amends for that disastrous season.
“We finished ninth on ranking in the league which was disappointing. We have this opportunity like a gift to go into CAF (Confederation Cup) so it is an opportunity to redeem ourselves. The players are aware that they can save the season with this game,” stated Mette.
The 44-year-old tactician hoped that his wealth of experience in coaching would go a long way in the team’s success in the match. Mette has previously coached Congolese top-flight sides Tongo FC and Association Sportive Otohô.
He has also handled Rwanda’s Rayon Sports and the Djibouti national team.
Tusker’s striker, Erick Kapaito, stated, "Tusker is a big team, but we have not finished in a good position in the league. God has blessed us with this opportunity to redeem ourselves, and we are ready to give our best.”
Both Police and Tusker booked tickets to the final through penalties.
Police defeated Bandari 5-3 in the penalties after a goalless draw in regular time.
On the other hand, Tusker edged out KCB 4-3 in penalty shootouts after a goalless draw in regular time. The losing team in the final will receive Sh2 million, while the teams that finish third and fourth will receive Sh 1.5 million and Sh 1 million, respectively.
The best performance by a Kenyan club in the CAF Confederation Cup was in 1987 when Gor Mahia clinched the title on away goal rule after drawing 3-3 on aggregate with Tunisian giants Esperance.
The competition was then referred to as the Mandela Cup.
