What you need to know:

  • Oduor was born in Yala, Siaya to Kenyan parents who later relocated to the United Kingdom.
  • He started his career at the Leeds United Academy and later stepped to the senior team before moving to the English Championship side Barnsley early last year.

United Kingdom-based fullback Clarke Oduor arrived in the country Wednesday evening and will hold his first training session with Harambee Stars Thursday morning ahead of their international friendly match against Zambia on Friday.

The Barnsley defender says he is eager to make use of the chance and hopefully become a regular in the Kenyan national team set up.

"It is a good opportunity for me and I am really excited to be here. I am hoping this call-up is the first of many more to come," he said after touching down at the JKIA on Wednesday.

Oduor, 21, is part of the Harambee Stars squad that is set to face Zambia in an international friendly match on Friday 9 as part of their preparations for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Comoros in November.

The youngster says he is ready to put in the work to ensure the team does well in the assignments.

"My plan is to work hard and get into the team first. The overall goal however is to work collectively as a team to ensure we get good results in the upcoming assignments and hopefully qualify for Afcon."

Oduor was born in Yala, Siaya to Kenyan parents who later relocated to the United Kingdom.

He started his career at the Leeds United Academy and later stepped to the senior team before moving to the English Championship side Barnsley early last year after spending a decade at the Leeds United set up.

On 22 July, Clarke Oduor scored a late winner for Barnsley as the team edged Brentford 2-1. The goal was crucial as it ensured Barnsley survived relegation and thrust the 21-year-old into the limelight.

He was a transfer target for English Premier League (EPL) side Sheffield United during the just-ended transfer window but Barnsley managed to hold on to him.

He was accompanied by his brother Clinton Oduor, who also serves as his agent, when he arrived at the JKIA on Wednesday.
